Specific Material Objectives
1.Oil & Acrylic Paintings (Canvas, Wood, Paper Supports)
•Objective: Stabilize paint layers (consolidation), treat cracks, remove harmful dirt, address varnish yellowing/cracking, and protect against fading/brittleness.
•Focus: Preventing paint loss, embrittlement (acrylics), canvas sagging, and wood warping.
•Textiles (Cloth, Tapestries, Garments)
•Objective: Prevent insect/mold damage, control humidity, clean gently, repair tears, support weak areas, and manage fading dyes.
•Focus: Maintaining fiber integrity, color, and structural strength; careful storage is key.
•Metals (Sculptures, Objects)
•Objective: Arrest corrosion (rust, patina), stabilize metal structure, clean surface deposits, and protect against moisture.
•Focus: Balancing removal of harmful corrosion with preserving original surface/patina.
•Wood (Sculptures, Furniture, Panels)
•Objective: Control humidity to prevent warping, cracking, and insect infestation; repair structural damage; stabilize paint/gilding.
•Focus: Managing expansion/contraction, reinforcing weak points, and treating wood-boring pests.
•Paper (Manuscripts, Prints, Drawings)
•Objective: Deacidify, clean stains, repair tears, strengthen fragile areas, protect from light/humidity/insects, and mount for safe display/storage.
•Focus: Preventing discoloration, brittleness, and insect damage; preserving handwritten/printed text.
•Sculptures (Various Materials)
•Objective: Structural reinforcement, surface cleaning (removing accretions), consolidating fragile media (stone, plaster, wood), and environmental protection.
•Focus: Maintaining original form, mass, and aesthetic integrity across diverse materials (stone, metal, wood, plaster).
